New World Class Studio Opens in Houston
July 16th 2011 by Tianna Hall
A new recording/mastering studio called Wire Road Studios has opened in the Houston Heights. The following promotional material is from their website:

Studio A is composed of a visually stunning Control Room, a 600 square-foot Live Room and two large Isolation Rooms. The Live Room has 17 foot ceilings and is viewable from the control room and the isolation rooms via 8 foot high glass walls. Studio A can also access another Isolation Room associated with Studio B.  The Live Room (with its Brodmann 7 foot Grand Piano and Mapex Saturn Series 6 piece drum kit) must be seen as well as heard to be fully appreciated for its acoustic character. The 5.1 surround mix-capable Control Room boasts a extensive array of analog gear as well as the latest plugins.  Marry these assets with the incredible Euphonix S5 Fusion console and you’ve got a world-class mix room capable of sonically-lifting any project to a new level.

Studio B is composed of a Control Room and an Isolation Room. This studio is principally used for mixing and mastering, but can also be used for voice-over work as well as vocal and instrumental overdubs.  As you review the equipment listed under the technology section, you’ll see that the outboard gear in Studio B is essentially identical to that of Studio A, allowing for continuity should a tracking or mixing session move from studio to studio. The major difference in outboard gear is the additional mastering equipment that Studio B is supplemented with such as a Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor, Weiss Engineering Digital Compressors and a Weiss Engineering Digital Equalizer.

Studio C is a video production suite primarily used for editing an production of videos.  The studio utilizes the industry-standard Final Cut Pro platform enhanced by a Euphonix Artist Series control board consisting of a Euphonix MC Control V2, MC Mix, MC Transport and MC Color modules.

INSTRUMENTS
Grand Piano:
Wire Road Studios’ piano is a Brodmann 212, 7-foot Grand. This hand-picked instrument produces quality tonal characteristics with responsive action and features German design and scaling. Wire Road selected the Brodmann for its broad tonal range and responsive touch. The Brodmann produces a sweet, singing and full-bodied sustaining tone.   The piano is available for use at no charge to our clients. Wire Road maintains the action, regulation and voicing through a maintenance program and has it tuned at regular intervals. The piano is maintained in a climate-controlled environment. Nevertheless, we suggest that clients personally inspect the piano’s state of tune no less than 24-hours prior to their session.

Drums: Our studio drum set is composed of a 6-piece Mapex Saturn Series drum kit with Zildjian K Customcymbals. The incredibly thin composite maple and walnut shell has made the Saturn Series a favorite among professional players. With its wide tuning range and its rich, powerful bottom end, the Saturn Series performs as well in the studio as it does in the concert hall. The Saturn kit is composed of a 22×18 bass drum, 10×8 tom, 12X9 tom, 14X14 floor tom, 16×16 floor tom and a 14X5.5 snare. The Zildjian K Customcymbal set includes a 20” Medium Ride, 18″ Crash, 16” Crash and 14” Hi-hats. Fresh drum heads are important to obtaining a quality drum sound and we highly-recommend that you have us purchase the heads of your choice and specification prior to your session for optimum studio quality during the recording. The daily rental fee for the drum set is $50 and the cost to re-head, if requested.
