Many high schoolers are very talented musicians. The Annual Memorial High School Battle of the Bands is the perfect chance for many of these kids to show the world what they're made of. But year after year they've had to battle not only other bands, but sub-par sound, lighting, and embarrassing feedback mid-song! "This year, maybe it could be different" thought ABC School of Music Founder Andrew Burt. "What if we were able to provide a professional sound system and lighting too?" he thought.

And so it began.

Burt is a long time veteran of the Houston live music scene himself, so through his many contacts he was able to put together a sound and lighting team to really provide the kids with an event to remember.

As the founder of one of the most long-standing private music schools in Texas, ABC School of Music, he has a history of caring for and providing quality lessons to youngsters on a wide variety of instruments, from violin to piano, drums, and yes, rock guitar. The battle ensued, with 7 bands competing, all using professional sound equipment and looking seemingly more star-like using lights that the pros use. It really did become a night to remember, and the kids all got a free t-shirt from ABC School too, donning their brand new logo, to soon be displayed on their new website http://abcschoolofmusic.com. The band Write What's Left won this battle, featuring Steven Sykes on guitar, Joey Scavone on drums, Conner Waughtal on bass, and Nick Dennis singing lead.

"It felt great to see it all come together," said Burt. "I remember being young and struggling with beginner equipment, and there's just something about that big stage feeling with real lights and monitors that makes it so much more exciting and memorable."

Memorial High School is happy to have ABC School of Music back again next year, because one thing you can count on every year in high school is another wave of kids, and their band ideas, and dreams of being a star. And thanks to one generous music school, also looking and sounding like a star for one special night.
