Background

David plays jazz piano, sings, composes, and teaches piano improvisation. He has recorded and played solo and with small and big bands in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Colorado and European jazz venues and festivals, including Rome, Italy and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. He has played and recorded with Austin band Starcrost, John Mills, Mike Mordecai, Sid Page, Eric Johnson, Keith Vivens, Keith Karnaky and many others. David shared billing with Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Richie Beirach, Dave Leibman, and Phil Woods. David is currently playing trio and solo engagements. He produced and released his second solo CD in 2006 with 17 mostly original jazz compositions featuring his keyboards and vocals, as well as the percussion work of his son, Sam Deaton. The CD, entitled Warming Trend, is available through DeaTunes Music Publishing. When he's not playing, David focuses on composition, teaching improv, his wife and two sons, and an engineering career.
