Background

I write a music column for Houston's Other newsweekly called Recent Future. I have become increasingly tired of indie-rock and punk, though this is what I know best, along with the other "rock" genres. I own only about forty or so jazz albums, mostly bebop, fusion and free/improvisation. I feel it is my duty to learn more, especially on the local level. I play guitar in a free/improv drone/psych quartet called Ouroboros. The other members of this band are Shaun and Carol Kelly, who, between them, play acoustic and electric bass, keys, brass, woodwinds, as well as homemade instruments. They also play with other outfits including Rotten Piece, an ambient duo, and Defenestration Unit, a mid-to-large, mostly brass ensemble. Drummer/percussionist Bill Lambert completes Ouroboros. Several self-released CDs are available at Sound Exchange.
