Background
John Calderon has enjoyed an active career as a freelance musician in the greater Houston area since 1997. He has appeared at many of the greater Houston area music festivals such as; Robert Mondavi Jazz Festival, Kemah Jazz Festival, and Houston International Jazz Festival. In addition to local performing, John has worked nationally and abroad with Jazz pianist, Bobby Lyle. John has also toured the country with Grammy Award winning R&B vocalist Regina Belle, appearing at the New York Jazz Festival in Central Park and the Concord Jazz Festival, Oakland, California among others. Currently, John is touring regularly with Jazz vocal legend Al Jarreau both nationally and abroad. So far, John's music career has taken him to throughout central, southern and eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Southeast Asia.
John is a published composer with a dozen guitar etudes published by the Texas Jazz Educators Association. He has appeared as a guest artist with the Brazosport College Jazz Ensemble, Lamar University Jazz Ensemble, G.C.I.C. Faculty Jazz Ensemble and has served as guest clinician for the U.I.L. Region X, and Region XVII Jazz Ensembles. He has also presented clinics for the Texas Music Educators Association at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention, San Antonio, Texas.
John Calderon received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Lamar University Beaumont, Texas.
