Background
In March 2004, Lisa auditioned for Houston's Gimme the Mike at the encouragement of a fellow band member and was selected to participate as a finalist in the competition. Singing Celene Dion's "Power of Love" Lisa beat out her 4 other competitors to go on to the finals. Scoring a perfect score of 40 with a soul grabbing delivery of Eva Cassidy's version of "Over the Rainbow", Lisa Whitley won Houston's 2004 Gimme the Mike competition.
Today she sings with some of Houston's most talented musicians to include Gary Norian and Clay Howell. Lisa has been a member of and now owns Music By Midstream, a popular dance band, performing at Houston events all over town including the International Festival.
Lisa moved to Texas in 1978. In the summer of 1980 Lisa got her first professional gig with Theatre Under The Stars production of Bye Bye Birdie playing the role of Kim MacAfee. The ability to combine acting with her love of singing in musical theatre continued with performances in Brigadoon, Oklahoma, and Scrooge. All with Theatre Under the Stars.
