Background
Valdemar has been performing flamenco for over three decades. His repertoire includes not only the traditional flamenco themes but contemporary flamenco, and he is an innovator in the emerging flamenco jazz genre. He performs with his wife, singer/dancer Lucia. They work with their flamenco ensemble and their dance group Gitanerias. Their first CD, Nuestra Sangre Flamenca, shows traditional flamenco, with guitar, voice, dance, and percussion.
They released a TV video production, Grafico, which included 15 musicians, singers, and dancers.
Their second CD, Ritmo Azul, was released in 2005, and shows a contemporary approach.
Flamenco Connection says "Drawing on the words of Garcia Lorca as well as Lucia's, the music of Lorca and Sabicas as well as Valdemar's, and with the warm musical support of flautist Garrett King and percussionist Lisa de la Garza, the Gitanerias ensemble have recorded another solid set of their signature Flamenco consisting of Solea por Bulerias, Peteneras, Seguiriyas, Danza Arabe, the Tarara, Bulerias, Soleares, and Tangos. There is always a disarming directness about their music, a straightforward lack of pretension that makes it hard not to like."
Valdemar is adjunct faculty at UHD, where he teaches ESL and Guitar Music History.
