Background

Wayne is originally from Los Angeles, California. His music education began at the age of five when his father began teaching him how to play the guitar. At age eight Wayne began piano lessons and by age nine, he was the pianist in his father’s church. Through his teens, Wayne developed a deep interest in classical, jazz, rock, country and bluegrass music. Wayne was lead guitarist in the Culver City High School Jazz Band. He studied church music at Life Pacific College, in Los Angeles.  In 1996 he resumed his music education and graduated (magna cum laude) in 2003 from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor of Music degree, Piano Performance. While at HBU he participated as pianist/keyboardist for the HBU Jazz Ensemble, and as a tenor in two HBU choral ensembles, the University Chorus and The University Singers. In 2009 Wayne completed his graduate studies at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston earning a Master of Music degree in Music Literature/Musicology. His master's thesis is a survey and transcription study of the late piano works of Earl "Fatha" Hines. While at UH Wayne held a graduate assistantship teaching music history and music theory and performed in the UH Jazz Ensemble. Wayne is a dedicated music educator, the owner and private music instructor of Maydwell Music Studio.  Wayne is an Adjunct Music Professor at Lone Star College - Cy-Fair where he teaches courses in Music Fundamentals, Music Appreciation, and Class Piano.  He also serves as pianist at The Metropolitan Baptist Church (The MET) in Cypress, TX, and has held posts as Director of Music and Worship Ministries at Bear Creek Community Church (Houston), Celebration Christian Center (Livermore, California), West Los Angeles Christian Center (Culver City, California). Wayne frequently performs as a freelance musician in Houston, surrounding areas.
