All Rhythm Section Instruments:

“Two Bass Hit”, by John Lewis, from the beginning until M. 66.

At the audition, you have the choice to play the excerpt with or without the live rhythm section, and it can be played at whatever tempo is comfortable for you.

The passage starts at the beginning of the recording using the link below. At M. 53, where it says “Opt. Open Solos”, you are to solo for two choruses of Blues in the Concert key of Db.

BASS PLAYERS - BECAUSE YOUR PART REQUIRES YOU TO FILL IN BETWEEN THE ENSEMBLE PARTS, WE HAVE INCLUDED A TRANSCRIPTION OF RAY BROWN’S BASS SOLO FOR REFERENCE. YOU MAY CHOOSE TO PLAY PARTS (BUT NOT ALL) OF HIS SOLO DURING YOUR AUDITION.

GUITAR PLAYERS, INSTEAD OF SOLOING, YOU ARE TO PLAY TWO CHORUSES OF RHYTHM GUITAR IN THE CONCERT KEY OF Db, “FREDDIE GREEN STYLE”, FOR TWO CHORUSES BEGINNING AT M. 53.
